4-H Goat Program

4-H Youth and Goat

The Pennsylvania 4-H Goat Program is open to all youth - with or without farm backgrounds. 4-H members who choose to take a goat project will learn about goat breeds and characteristics, the fundamentals of raising goats, and goat health.

With increased interest in goat meat, milk and cheese products, 4-H’ers will gain a broad knowledge of Pennsylvania’s goat industry through events, shows and hands-on projects.

In addition, 4-H goat members will build skills which will be valuable to them for life as their increase their knowledge and find many opportunities for personal growth and enrichment.

In most Pennsylvania counties, dairy and meat goat projects are the most often-carried projects. However in other counties, 4-Hers can choose fiber, pygmy, pack and cart goat projects as well.

4-H Leader Award

The Pennsylvania 4-H program and Penn State Animal Science Department sponsors an award for the outstanding 4-H market goat club leader in Pennsylvania. The presentation of the award will be made just prior to the sale of the Grand Champion Market Goat at the Farm Show.
