Feed Management Plan Writing Workshop
for Certified Feed Management Planners

Hours: 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
About the program:
Learn how to write a feed management plan at this one-day workshop, designed specifically for certified feed managers. Each workshop features a classroom, as well as an on-farm session. Lititz site participants will visit Oregon Dairy; Chambersburg site participants will visit Falling Springs Farm. Participants who attend the workshop and complete the plan may use this as one of two plans required to be a technical service provider.
Participants should bring a laptop, and download the following tools prior to the start of the workshop:
- Phosphorous monitoring tools: Instructions and background (pdf)
- Interpretation of milk urea nitrogen values
- Resources for sampling and evaluating forages and total mixed rations
- Manure sampling instructions for Pennsylvania feed management planners

Agenda:
8:30 – 9:00: Welcome
9:00 – 10:45: Introduction to Opportunity Checklist , Feed Management Checklist and farm data with producer and nutritionist.
10:45 – 11:00: Travel to farm
11:00 – 12:30: Farm visit. Break into 2 groups: Group 1 – Discussion on fecal sampling for the groups of animals; Group 2 – Meet with the nutritionists and producer to get more details on questions related to the plan, including diet formulation, lab analysis etc.
12:30 – 1:30: Return to the meeting location for lunch
1:30 – 3:30: Write a feed management plan. Use the resource tools developed to compare actual to formulated MNE, MUNs, Fecal P etc.
