Improve Your Farm Accounting System:Recent research conducted by Dairy Alliance indicates that many farm accounting systems do not meet the standards required to supply the dairy’s key decision makers with the accurate information they need to proactively manage their business.
This program helps the people in charge of your accounting system make the changes necessary to improve the quality of information required to make sound management decisions. This program can consist of any combination of the following:
- On-site visits to evaluate your accounting system.
- On-site visits to help you set up your accounting system, make adjustments to your chart of accounts, or review your monthly entries to validate data accuracy.
- On-site training on implementing proper accounting principles and practices.
- Online information exchange to evaluate your accounting system and/or review data entry issues.
- Online training sessions on report generation and interpretation.
The cost will vary according to the educational components you request. From this initial visit you will receive a report listing the issues identified during the visit, a list of recommendations for changes that should be implemented, the results you should expect if you make the suggested changes, and online follow-up to help implement the changes.

Profitability Assessment (PA) Dairy Tool:
Penn State dairy Extension educators created the innovative PA Dairy Tool Program to help dairy producers examine their entire farm system and identify the bottlenecks in their operations that hinder profitability. Training is available to consultants who would like to learn how to use the online version of this tool, and its accompanying drill-down tools, with their dairy clients.
