Online discussion series offered free of charge to Profit and Target Team facilitators

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State Dairy Alliance has helped hundreds of Pennsylvania Dairy Profit and Target Teams learn how to work together and establish goals for future success. Now, Dairy Alliance is offering team-building skills to the many agribusiness professionals across the state who facilitate these Profit and Target Teams.

Friday Facilitator Forums is a new series of online discussion forums designed for new and veteran Profit and Target Team facilitators. Team facilitators are invited to attend at no charge. The forum’s real-time, web-based format provides a cost-effective and efficient way for facilitators to gain new skills and network with other consultants who are working with dairy teams.

“Facilitation and leadership skills need to continually be honed to be most effective,” notes Dr. Lisa Holden, associate professor of dairy science at Penn State. “Finding new ways to motivate your team, to set and achieve goals or to apply management tools make you a more valuable asset to your teams and your clients,” Holden explains, adding: “Sharing ideas about successes as well as struggles with other facilitators will help you learn how others are managing their teams and making progress with their dairy clients.

One forum will be held each month, October through April, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Each session will feature a 20- to 30-minute presentation about a team- related topic followed by interaction and discussion by participants. Each forum will include a discussion question that participants should be prepared to answer for their teams.

The series kicks off on October 16, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. The topic will be effective agenda management. Discussion will lead off with the following questions:  How long do your team meetings typically last?  How well is your agenda covered?

Advance registration is required. Call Penn State Dairy Alliance, toll-free, at 888-373-7232 no later than noon on the Thursday preceding the first session you wish to attend. Upon calling, you will receive information about how to access the training site. Participants must have a high-speed internet connection and speakers on their computer.
