An Sc 215 GS Pets in Society

(3 Credits) Introduction to the varied roles that companion animals play in human society and their impact on human activity and well-being.

An Sc 305 Companion Animal Care and Nutrition

(3 Credits) Principles of care and nutrition and contemporary importance of companion animals with emphasis on canine and feline species.

An Sc 314 Laboratory Methods in Rodent Research

(2 Credits) Application of methods and techniques in small animal research including handling, necropsy procedures; histology and molecular methods including genotying.

An Sc 315 Small Animal Health and Disease

(3 Credits) Introduction to the principles of small animal health, including the recognition, prevention and control of common small animal diseases.

An Sc 405 Advanced Canine Nutrition and Management

(3 Credits) Application of biological principles to the care and nutrition of dogs; interactive discussions of contemporary nutrition and management issues.

Vet Sc 405 Laboratory Animal Science

(3 Credits) Principles involved in maintaining laboratory animals. Emphasis is on management, preventive medicine, and surgical considerations used in laboratory animal colonies.

Mouse Biomethodology Seminar

This is a 3 hour seminar offered at least once every semester. Class size is limited to ten people. The initial hour is a lecture covering selected topics in basic laboratory mouse biology, husbandry and genetics. The following 2 hour laboratory section allows participants to practice mouse handling, restraint, and common experimental procedures including blood collection.

Rodent Surgery Workshop

This is a 3 hour workshop designed to provide research personnel with the opportunity to learn and apply basic surgical concepts and techniques used in rodent surgery. Class size is limited to ten people. Participants are required to pass the IACUC online training tutorial and review instructional material (provided on CD) prior to attending. No prior surgical experience is required.
