Includes a Comparison of Costs for Composting vs. Rendering
Time: Wednesday, March 12th 12 noon (free lunch) OR 6:00 pm (free dinner) (same program at each time)

1. Mortality Composting -Presented by Dr. Gregory Martin, Penn State Cooperative Extension
Looks at all legal ways for mortality disposal, but highlights composting
Explains the science behind composting
Gives practical pictures and examples
2. Technical & Financial Assistance -Presented by Heather Smeltz, USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS)
Highlights technical assistance available from NRCS
Looks at the cost associated with mortality disposal
Highlights financial aid options available for disposal of mortality
3. Farmer Panel -Panelists will include Swine, Poultry, and Cattle Producers
Producers who are currently composting will share their experiences
Plenty of time to ask questions about composting from your fellow farmers
4. Vegetative Barriers -Presented by Robert Goodling, Penn State Cooperative Extension
Vegetative barriers provide “out of sight, out of mind” neighbor protection
Examples of fast-growing trees
Odor, particulate, and emissions reduction
