This year’s Dairy Days Cow Camp will take place May 30 – June 1. This event will incorporate many opportunities for juniors age 8-18. Saturday’s hands-on workshops for the senior participants will involve labor management, reproduction and new pregnancy tests, and cow comfort and building design. Junior workshops will focus on dairy genetics, calf nutrition and health, and dairy products. Speakers include agricultural engineer John Tyson, Mr. Abe Harpster of Evergreen Farm, reproductive specialist Dr. Michael O’Connor, dairy geneticist Chad Dechow,, Pennsylvania Dairy Princess royalty, and other faculty and graduate students from the Department of Dairy and Animal Science. All groups will participate in a media training workshop offered by industry professionals.
Sunday morning’s speaker will be Erin Luley. Erin is a member of the Penn State swimming and diving team who excels in freestyle swimming. At Penn State she is a consistent Dean’s List student who hopes to attend veterinary school. Outside of Penn State, Erin was a finalist in the 2007 U.S. Memory Championships. She will be discussing her life as a student-athlete and the importance of goal-setting
