The Penn State Beef-Sheep Center, located on Orchard Road, houses between 200 and 250 Dorset ewes, rams, and lambs and about 200 cows, steers, and bulls.

The sheep are used for feeding and grazing research that can be applied to all types of livestock.

Beef cattle research ranges from feeding test trials to genetic programs. Staff also test equipment, diet supplements, and other products.

Cattle and sheep at the center also become the focus of classes in animal judging and anatomy.  Purebred auctions and other livestock events take place regularly at the facility.
