Admission Requirements
Steps for Applying
- Apply to the Graduate School.
- In addition to applying to the Graduate School, you must also apply directly to the Program in Animal Science. The program application requires additional supporting documents and information. A Supplemental Application for the Graduate Program in Animal Science must also be completed.
Required Documents
- Completed Graduate School Application
- Nonrefundable $45 application fee for electronic applications OR nonrefundable $60 application fee for paper applications
- Scores from the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) Aptitude Test. A minimum for admission of at least 50 percent average percentile score in Verbal, Quantitative, and Analytical components is necessary.
- All international applicants whose first language is not English or who have not received a baccalaureate or master's degrees from an institution in which the language of instruction is English must take the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language). A TOEFL score of 550 on the paper test or a score of 213 on the computer-based test is required for admission.
- Application for Visa Document (International Students Only)
- Two official transcripts from each institution attended
- Statement of long-term plans and career goals
- Three letters of recommendation
Description
The Graduate Program in Animal Science offers research and teaching in the animal sciences at the University Park Campus. Faculty from the departments of Dairy and Animal Science and Poultry Science offer degrees in Master of Agriculture, (M.Agr.), Master of Science (M.S.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.). The plan of study for a candidate is determined by the candidate's individual background and interests.
The two departments have a wide variety of agricultural species and specialize in management, breeding and genomics, growth and development biology, meat science, nutrition, nutritional, lactational and reproductive physiology.
