John W. Fuquay Named 2003 Dairy Science Distinguished Alumnus

Dr. Fuquay is co-author of Applied Animal Reproduction which is in its 5th edition with the 6th edition in production currently. John and his wife, Charlotte, have two sons, Michael and David.

John W. Fuquay has been named 2003 Dairy Science Distinguished Alumnus.

Dr. Fuquay was born in Burlington, North Carolina. He earned his B.S. in Animal Industry in 1955 and his M.S. in Animal Science in 1966 from North Carolina State University. In 1969 he was awarded the Ph.D. in Dairy Science from The Pennsylvania State University. Dr. Fuquay was on the faculty in the Department of Animal and Dairy Sciences at Mississippi State University from 1969 to 1999 and is Professor Emeritus of Animal and Dairy Science in Reproductive and Environmental Physiology.

Dr. Fuquay is a Fellow in the American Dairy Science Association and was awarded the Association's Award of Honor in 2002. He served as Editor-in-Chief for the Journal of Dairy Science from 1997 to 2002 and as Section Editor from 1991 to 1994. Dr. Fuquay was an editor for a major reference work, Encyclopedia of Dairy Sciences, which was published by Academic Press in 2003. John has been highly recognized for his talents in the classroom. He is the recipient of the Purina Mills, Inc. Teaching Award in 1988 from the American Dairy Science Association, the Award of Merit for Teaching from Gamma Sigma Delta in 1982 and the Grisham Faculty Excellence Award from Mississippi State University in 1993.
