Getting to Know Your Dairy Team

200803sdinh.jpgAs a recent transplant to Pennsylvania I have found that capital region already feels like home. I have spent the last 3 ½ years at the University of Maryland working on my Ph.D. degree focusing on N utilization in dairy cows. Prior to arriving in Maryland I received my Master’s degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and worked for the university as a research technician and taught dairy management at Northeast Community College in Norfolk, NE. As a native of Michigan who went to Ohio State University for my Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science I am happy to be back in Big Ten country, and out of the hustle and bustle of the Washington D.C. metro area.

It has only been a short month that I have been a new Extension Educator for Dairy/Environment based in Lancaster County, and I am more excited every day that I have been given this opportunity to work in such a great dairy area. This position is also part of the Capital Region Dairy Team so I am looking forward to collaborating with the other dairy educators in the region. The main focus is to assist in the sustainability and profitability of dairy farms in the region through better feeding and nutrient management practices.

I have received the warmest welcome from fellow extension agents, staff, producers, and agricultural professionals in the region. I’m looking forward to meeting more of you, and assisting the Pennsylvania dairy industry as it evolves to meet future needs of consumers.
