Penn State's McAllister Takes Individual Honors at Eastern National
Debbie McAllister, a senior in DAS, excelled as high individual overall at the Eastern National Collegiate Livestock judging contest at Timonium.
Debbie McAllister, a senior from Centre Hall, excelled as high
individual overall in the Eastern National Livestock Collegiate Judging
Contest held last weekend in Timonium at the Maryland State
Fairgrounds. The team placed third in the contest which was won by the
University of Kentucky.
McAllister also placed first in
beef, second in swine and oral reasons and third in sheep. There were
25 individuals in the contest, and her win marks the third year in a
row that a Penn State member has won the high individual recognition at
this contest.
Other members of the team were Nicole
Fogleman, a senior from Lock Haven; Kyle Grim, a senior from East
Berlin; Russel Larson, a senior from East Berlin; and Amber
Shollenberger, a junior from Mohrsville. Wendall Landis, assistant beef
cattle manager, coached the team.
Dr. Terry Etherton, Head
of the Department of Dairy and Animal Science, said, "Participation on
the Penn State Livestock Judging Team provides outstanding
opportunities for our students to learn to evaluate livestock and learn
to use practical skills of reasoning and decision-making. I
congratulate the team on their hard work and results."
Sollenberger placed fourth in sheep, and tenth in reasons and overall;
Fogleman was seventh in swine, eighth overall and tenth in beef; Grim
placed eighth in swine and tenth in sheep.
Other participating teams were from Ohio State University and West Virginia University.
