Pennsylvania Dairy Stakeholders To Award Academic Scholarships

To encourage outstanding students enrolled in agriculture, the Pennsylvania Dairy Stakeholders will offer $5,000 in scholarships.

For the 2008-2009 academic year, the Pennsylvania Dairy Stakeholders will again offer $5,000 in scholarships to directly support Student Leader Scholarships.  Each student scholarship may have a value of up to $1,000.

The purpose of these scholarships is to provide recognition, encouragement, and financial assistance to outstanding students enrolled in academic programs that support the dairy industry.

In making the announcement, Phoebe Bitler, PA Dairy Stakeholders president, said, "The Stakeholders recognize the importance of encouraging young people to study agriculture as a career path. To demonstrate our commitment to youth and the future of agriculture and the dairy industry, we are choosing to offer these educational scholarships to support undergraduate studies."

Consideration for this scholarship shall be given to Pennsylvania residents who are full-time undergraduate students planning to enroll or currently enrolled in a qualifying field of study which includes: Dairy and Animal Science, Ag Marketing and Business, Nutrition, Food Science, Ag and Extension Education, Ag Business Management, Ag Engineering, or related fields. Students may apply for and receive the scholarship in subsequent years.  Incoming freshman are encouraged to apply and will be given equal consideration.

Selection of the scholarship winners will be based on the completed application within the following weighted criteria: academic performance (25%); apparent commitment to a career related to the dairy industry (30%); evidence of leadership, character, and integrity (25%); and application compliance (20%).  Application must be made using the Pennsylvania Dairy Stakeholders Student Leader Scholarship Application form at www.padairystake.org.

Each scholarship will be awarded for one academic year.  The scholarship will be paid to the student upon proper certification of enrollment by the appropriate academic institution officer.
