Cornell University Equine Research Park

The Equine Park is conveniently located approximately 1 mile from the Cornell College of Veterinary Medicine on 165 acres of rolling farm land. Facilities are available to house approximately 100 horses in box stalls or paddocks and pastures with run-in sheds. Recognized as the state animal since 1959, the white-tailed deer is a very important wildlife species to Pennsylvania, and can be found in all corners of the state from our most remote forests to our most developed cities. Its history and management is complex, both biologically and socially.

The white-tailed deer is undoubtedly one of the most influential species of wildlife in Pennsylvania. For the Bureau of Forestry, management of white-tailed deer on the State Forest lands has a profound impact on many aspects of the stewardship of these lands.

This site is a joint project of the Boone and Crockett Club, Mule Deer Foundation, and Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation. These non-profit wildlife conservation organizations formed the Chronic Wasting Disease Alliance in January 2002 to address CWD. Other organizations have since joined the Alliance.

Fungi produce an array of chemical products known as secondary metabolites. Penicillin is an example of a secondary metabolite with medicinal applications. Unfortunately, not all secondary metabolites are as useful as penicillin. Mycotoxins are secondary metabolites of fungal origin that are toxic to animals and humans. Disease that results from ingestion of mycotoxin-contaminated feed or food by animals or humans is called mycotoxicosis. Common examples of mycotoxicosis are mushroom poisoning and ergotism.
