About the program:
As precision feeding gains more attention as a cost-effective way to manage nutrients on farm, cost share and incentive programs are becoming available. USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service is offering a program through the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) to help dairy producers improve feed management. In order for a producer to be eligible for EQIP funds, it is necessary to have a feed management plan written. Only nutritionists and consultants who
are certified can develop a feed management plan.
The Mid-Atlantic Regional Water Program’s feed management team consisting of Penn State, Virginia Tech, and the University of Maryland is offering this training program for nutritionists and consultants. By
attending this half-day program, any ARPAS certified dairy nutritionist can take the feed management exam, which will be offered on November 11 and 12. Breakout sessions have been included at the Penn State Dairy Cattle Nutrition Conference that are pertinent to nutritionists currently certified as feed management planners.
Additional workshops will be offered through 2009 as continuing education programs dealing with specifics on writing and implementing feed management plans and updates on regulations, manure sampling and nutrients.
