Using the News Feeds

XML news feeds are easy to use. First, download and install an inexpensive desktop newsreader application like FeedDemon (Windows)FeedDemon (Windows - http://www.feeddemon.com/feeddemon/), or NetNewsWire (Apple)NetNewsWire (Apple - http://ranchero.com/netnewswire/), or an open source (free) application like AmphetaDesk (Free for Windows, Mac, Linux, et.al.)AmphetaDesk (Free for Windows, Mac, Linux, et.al. - http://www.disobey.com/amphetadesk/). Then, copy and paste the URL of the news feed into the application’s "subscribe" or "Add a Channel" dialogue.

You can also collect and view news feeds on web-based news "aggregators" like Syndic8Syndic8 (http://www.syndic8.com/) and NewsAppNewsApp (http://server.com/WebApps/NewsApp/).

There are several standard versions of XML/RSS. We provide feeds written in versions 1.0 and 2.0. Both versions are readable by most reader applications and Web-based aggregators, and offer similar functionality.

The latest information about XML/RSS news readers are available from web search engines; for example this preconfigured GoogleGoogle search, or this preconfigured YahooYahoo search.

Who Else is Using XML News Feeds?

Many sites are using XML news feeds. The New York Times, BBC, ABC, ESPN, Wired.com, CNet News, Christian Science Monitor are all using feeds to syndicate and distribute content. Many respected web sites and Weblogs published by professionals rely on RSS to distribute news and information. And many people are using them to quickly scan the day's news.
