Equine Forum Planned in Harrisburg Area, to focus on environmental issues

State Horse Council Advisory Committee's Fall Issues Forum and the Pennsylvania Equine Council's Annual Meeting will be November 6-8.

The Pennsylvania Equine Council (PEC) and the Penn State University Equine Program will host this year's State Horse Council Advisory Committee's Fall Issues Forum and the Pennsylvania Equine Council's Annual Meeting at the Holiday Inn East Hotel in Harrisburg, PA on Nov. 6-8, 2009.

The three day program will begin on Friday, Nov 6 with tours of area horse farms and Eby trailer headquarters in Blue Ball, PA, followed by a social dinner at the Shady Maple Restaurant. xxx Highlighting Saturday's programs will be an educational forum focusing on Equine Environmental Stewardship and "Is Your Farm Green?" The Environmental Issues Forum will focus on several new nutrient management regulations that are now regulating the equine industry. Representatives from the PA Dept of Agriculture, PA Department of Environmental Protection, USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service, a Nutrient Management Specialist, along with several speakers from the Penn State University's Chesapeake Bay Targeted Watershed Project will help horse owners understand how they fit into the State Nutrient Management Regulations. Other topics will include pasture management, laminitis and manure resources, with discussions led by renowned speakers from across the country. The day's activities will conclude with a reception and an American Horse Council update with Jay Hickey, president of the American Horse Council.

Keynote address will be given on Saturday by U.S. Representative Glenn Thompson (R-Howard, PA), a member of the U.S. House Agriculture Committee.

Sunday, Nov 8, will consist of the annual meetings for the State Horse Council American Council SHCAC and the Pennsylvania Equine Council.
