While Centre County received some much needed rain on Saturday, October 25, the Snider Agricultural Arena was packed with 4-H and FFA members looking for next year's market steer project.

Twenty-nine high quality steers and six excellent heifers were consigned to the Fifth Annual Penn State Block & Bridle Club Calf Sale, and the sale proved to be one of the highest selling in the Club's history with steer lots averaging $1,149 and heifer lots averaging $962. The entire sale is organized, managed and staffed by club members.

Calf Sale Co-Chair Kasey Woolam, South Windsor, CT, summed the weekend's accomplishments, saying, "The success of our sale has grown with the quality of consignments and support of our buyers. It provides a great learning experience for our club members as well as financial support for our year's activities."

Dave Nogan, Tompkinsville, Club Calf Sale Co-Chair, said, "I was thoroughly impressed with the quality of calves brought to us by the consigners, which was shown in the enthusiasm of the buyers."

During the morning, a show was held to determine sale order.  Judge Dale Rains, Mercer, named an Eyes on the Money calf from Wise Club Calves, Punxsutawney, Grand Champion Steer.  This lot was also the highest selling of the day, going for $2,000.  Reserve Champion Steer also went to Wise Club Calves, with a LeRoy Brown calf.

In the heifer show, Wise Club Calves again captured the Grand Champion title with an Alias heifer.  A Manchild calf from Donnie, Kelley and Dillon Sheiss of Three "D" Stock Farms, Larwill, IN, won Reserve Champion Heifer.

On Friday night, our consignors and other guests were welcomed with a delicious, home cooked roast beef dinner prepared by Chair Jenny Hedges, New Florence, and committee. Following dinner, the club held a Fun Auction to raise money for the Little International Livestock Exposition.  Over 104 lots of gift baskets, student labor, and handmade items donated by club members and supporters were sold to benefit the club's 92nd annual livestock show.

The PSU Block & Bridle Club extends our sincerest thanks to our consignors and buyers from both sales!
