Prospective Students Invited to Department Open House
Posted: Oct 14, 2009
Department of Dairy and Animal Science will host an open house for high school seniors November 4-5 at University Park.
High school seniors are invited to be part of a Student Open House, sponsored by Penn State's Department of Dairy and Animal Science (DAS) and Department of Poultry Science, the Block & Bridle Club, the Dairy Science Club, Poultry Science Club, CHAPS (Collegiate Horsemen at Penn State) and SRUA (Students for the Responsible Use of Animals).
To be held on Wednesday and Thursday, November 4 and 5 at University Park, the Open House is open to any high school senior who is considering continuing his/her education at Penn State in the Animal Sciences major.
Dr. Terry Etherton, Head of the Department of Dairy and Animal Science, said, "Our annual Open House provides prospective students with an exceptional opportunity to get an in-depth perspective of our Animal Sciences programs, to visit the campus and to learn about the University admission process. During the two-day open house, high school students get to interact with student leaders, faculty, and attend a class. Those who have participated in the past find this very helpful as they make their decisions about attending college."
Students are welcomed to campus by student club members and advisors with a pizza party at the Snider Ag Arena on Wednesday evening. This social time offers a chance to get to know each other as well as those who will be hosting.
A full day of activities, including attending class, touring the campus with Ag Advocates, and meeting with College and Department representatives is scheduled for Thursday, with the program concluding at 4:00 p.m. after a visit to the Penn State Creamery.
Students will be paired with a responsible student and will stay overnight in on-campus housing. There is no cost to participants, with all meals being provided.
Registration is required to allow for assignment with student hosts. A form and additional information are available at: http://www.das.psu.edu/pdf/AnimalSciOpenHouse%2009%20flyer.pdf.
