Penn State Extension Equine Team

Promoting Care of the Horse, the Environment, and the Industry, through Research and EducationHorse Gazing to the Left

Because of the continual growth of the equine industry in Pennsylvania and the increasingly important role that the industry plays in supporting agriculture, the Penn State Extension Equine Team has been established to provide science based education that is both timely and relevant. The mission of the Penn State Extension Equine Team is to provide horse owners and farm managers, equine professionals, agricultural service providers, and agency representatives with the latest information on environmental stewardship and water quality, sustainable farm management practices, and horse health and well-being.

Manure Management Workshop June 6th & 27th Planned in Northampton County

All farms in Pennsylvania that generate or use manure must have a manure or nutrient management plan for their farm.  Farms that contain horses and livestock that are not CAOs (Concentrated Animal Operations) are required to have a manure management plan for their farm.  Farm owners can prepare their own plans.  To help horse farm owners, Penn State Extension is offering a two night short course on how to write a manure management plan.  The short course is being held at the Northampton County Extension office on June 6th and 27th.   Space will be limited to 20 participants, so that everyone can receive individual help in preparing their plan.  Participants should register early.  To pre-register and for more information contact Donna or Sarah at 610-746-1970.

To be added to the Equine Team email listserv regarding the Equine Program Team offerings, contact Norma Young.
