Penn State's Animal Sciences program has no specific laptop requirements for incoming students. But we can make some recommendations to help get you off to a good start.

Where should I buy my laptop?

It's up to you where you purchase your computer, but keep in mind that once you have a Penn State Access Account, you are eligible to purchase a computer from the Penn State Computer Store at educational pricing. This means a significant discount. For more information about purchasing from the Penn State Computer Store, go to computerstore.psu.edu.

What operating system should I choose?

At Penn State you will encounter students who prefer Windows, Apple OS, and any number of flavors of Linux. The important thing is to choose the operating system you are used to and are comfortable with. Equally important is to make sure your machine has adequate system memory and hard disk capacity.

If you forget everything else

What features should I look for in a laptop?

See the basic laptop recommendations on this page; then add to these any specific requirements of your own. For example, if you plan to carry your laptop with you most of the time, select a lightweight machine.
